Romanshorn is in Thurgau, which has no statutory tourist-tax law. Instead, participating Thurgau Tourism member accommodation businesses may charge the TourismusBeitragTG per overnight guest and night: CHF 2.50 for hotels; CHF 1.50 for campsites, youth hostels, holiday apartments and bed-and-breakfasts. The contribution is charged regardless of the purpose of the stay or type of accommodation, shown as a separate item on the guest bill, and declared with 3.8% VAT. The accommodation business is responsible for implementing and collecting it.
Children up to and including age 16 are exempt. All other overnight guests are charged regardless of the purpose of the stay or accommodation type, subject to the accommodation business being a participating Thurgau Tourism member with the required agreement.
Holiday apartments and bed-and-breakfasts have a TourismusBeitragTG rate of CHF 1.50 per overnight guest and night. This is not a statutory tourist tax: it applies only when the accommodation business participates as a Thurgau Tourism member, has signed the required agreement, displays the charge separately on the guest bill and uses the additional revenue for tourism marketing. The business itself is responsible for collection.
